It depends on the individual. Those of us who enjoy an “all-you-can-eat” buffet can attest not only do we tend to eat more food, but we also eat more quickly.
The rate at which we eat usually heads the list of harmful nutrition behaviors. Many of us are habitually fast eaters who complete our meals in less than seven minutes. Unfortunately, it can take up to twenty minutes before you realize you’re actually full. By that time, you could have avoided “overeating” and joined the others who have already walked away from the table.
To prevent overeating, slow down your pace and know your limits. If you ignore the brain’s signal and travel beyond the “forbidden zone” by overeating, you create a feeling of discomfort. This accelerates your appestat (appetite control center), encouraging a higher “set point.” As a result, it may take more food to satisfy your newer, higher appetite level.
Tip: Slow down to slow up overeating!
