Start at the root of your problem: Curb your overeating. Generally, overeating can be defined as consuming more calories than you burn off. If your total caloric intake for that day exceeds your total calories expended, you probably will gain weight. In other words, you’ve overeaten.
You can also overeat and gain weight by eating the wrong foods. Certain foods, particularly those high in fat and sugar, have a tendency to convert easily to fat in the body.
To stop storing excess fat, you have to balance your energy equation: Burn off what you take in. Plus, make sure you’re eating foods that are used efficiently by the body and not stored as fat.
Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, eggs, lean proteins and low- to non-fat dairy foods. 1
